The Planning Commission may soon have a public hearing on the proposed changes to the Clevengers Village development, which was approved for the north end of the county in 2005. The new urbanist street layout, including pedestrian/bicycle infrastructure, would be removed from the plans.
Instead of 290 residential units allowed before the first commercial development, the developer could build 385 units. Since 2005, the developer and County collaborated to build a wastewater treatment plant, and the County estimates it will eventually need 350 new residential customers to meet the plant’s operating costs. What is really needed is commercial customers, but when, or if, they will ever appear is an unknown. We will encourage the County to carefully consider the pros and cons of this proposal.
