Despite the significant negative impact that the Costco project will have on New Baltimore, on November 8, 2007 the Fauquier county Board of Supervisors voted in favor of the rezoning and special exception necessary for the project to move forward.

Supervisors Atherton and Robinson voted against the Costco application, emphasizing the traffic congestion and their commitment to the comprehensive plan, which prohibits such big box stores in New Baltimore. Sadly, these concerns were not sufficient to convince a majority of the Board.

Thank you to the PEC supporters who took time to meet with the Board members and speak against the Costco plan at the public hearing. Your efforts do make a difference, and continued vigilance will bring better decisions in the future.
