TrAIL line Information
TrAIL is a 500-kV transmission line that was proposed by Dominion and Allegheny Power in 2007 and approved to be built in 2008. The line will run from southwest Pennsylvania, through West Virginia, and end in Loudoun County, Virginia.
On November 5th, PEC received word that the VA Supreme Court has decided to uphold the approval of the Dominion and Allegheny TrAIL line. Read more about the decision.

Governors from 10 East Coast states, including Virginia, signed on to a letter of opposition to the various House & Senate transmission bills. The governors call for investment in off-shore wind and local renewable generation.

The Pennsylvania PSC voted 4-1 to approve the transmission line project, ignoring the recommendations of their trial staff, law judges and technical experts.
In a decision issued October 7th, the Virginia SCC issues approval for the transmission line, contingent on approval in both West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
The two Pennsylvania Judges reviewing the proposal in PA have recommended the line be turned down, saying the true impetus for the line is "to transport cheaper coal-fired generation from [west] to [east]."
Dec 2007- PEC has submitted the testimony of nine expert witnesses to the Virginia State Corporation Commission. These witnesses outline the many reasons this transmission line application should be denied.
