I have always loved the wonderful summer nights in Fauquier County, when you can smell the cattle farms, smell the freshly cut grass and still hear the Whippoorwills sing -- with any luck, and the work of PEC, my grandchildren will grow up loving it too.

Karen Lamond is a life-long resident of Fauquier County and has worked for the Piedmont Environmental Council for nearly 24 years. Being raised by a pole barn builder from Southern Fauquier County, her first love has always been the rich Virginia farmland she explored as a child.

Karen has been instructmental in developing a substantial relational database system for PEC. Her database layout, design and maintenance has been described as one of the best of its kind throughout the Land Preservation organizations in the country. Karen is always happy to offer her services to local citizen advocate groups and other like-minded organizations, insuring that they too have the best database software and management policies to run effective grassroot campaigns. Karen has completed many classes for certification in Access, Filemaker and FoxPro in order to stay on top of all new database technology and is always exploring and researching new database tools to help keep PEC's systems current. While Karen remains very excited about her work for PEC, the job that she is most proud of is being a mother to her two children, Clayton and Adam.
